I am a total newbie, I want to be able to see my cam from my office, i hav downloaded the ftp plugin.

AbelCam has it's own built-in web server which defaults to port 8080. It's easiest to set it up and test it locally before going elsewhere like your office.
So setup AbelCam and then, if you have a second computer at home, point it's browser at the IP address of the machine with the cam. For example, at my place I can see the cam by pointing a browser at: http://192.168.1.100:8080/index.html
If this works then the only other detail is to poke a hole through your firewall so that any incoming requests for port 8080 are forwarded to 192.168.1.100 (or whatever your local IP is).
Now you can go to your office and point your browser at the public-side IP address of your router/firewall.
If your ISP tends to change your public-side IP address a lot with DHCP, then look into Dynamic DNS...it's a great convenience.
