could the image instead of a jpg be a animated gif?
i think it would work somewhat like this, user set number of frames, interval between uploads and the gif would be generated and the frames would have their delay set to get to the last frame just about the time a new gif would be sent

it would of course generate a little delay between the image capturing and it's viewing, but would generate a more smooth action.
also would be interesting to have a template webpage and java script for users of the ftp function....
