Can anyone provide a simple javascript that detects if abelcam is active. I'd like my web page to display a message if the camera isn't on. thanks.

Don't know what program you're using 
Try AbelCam 3.0.0 which includes an About View
The image above does not show User ID and License ID as there was no license registered.
To take advantage of the JavaScript code you need a license.
Both licenses, the free and the Pro license work for this purpose. |

One thing I don't understand is why do I need to run a javascript off of your server. (the online.js script). why shouldn't that run on my server?

How would your server know if your AbelCam is online? Waiting for a timeout?
