It would be great to be able to access the camera over https://. It's great there is a login but I (and I'm sure I'm not alone on this) would prefer to have a more secure browser experience. Thank you.

I was thinking about this a long time.
Seeing that many AbelCam users struggle with getting their router to forward incoming requests to their computer, I don't think they will be able to handle the required certificates in an efficient manner.
Maybe this could be automated using self-signed certificates generated on my end.
Right now I recommend to set up either a apache ssl server with proxy to access AbelCam or vpn access.
Either method will enable you to use encrypted access to the AbelCam server.
