Why is it when one is ready to give up, the answer often arrives?
I have been having problems with this or many months. I am happy to report the FTP function is working.
Here are some pointers if anyone else has troubles...
MelvinG and ChristianKa got me thinking to look harder at the paths. Here is the first part of what got it working:
FTP Server: ftp.dnsexit.com (Not ftp://ftp.dnsexit.com or any other derivative)
Checkboxes: none checked
Port: 21
User: (my username account provided by Dnsexit)
Password: (my password provided by Dnsexit)
Directory: /mywebsitename.com (a slash at the beginning, none at the end)
Also I had to go to the upload tab and change the filename to snaphot (or whatever.jpg). The reason I mention this is because I have at one time browsed to a folder and selected a jpg file. Later, while trying countless variations of the FTP settings, I changed the name from c:\downloads\webcam\snapshot.jpg to just snapshot.jpg - it worked.
Each software I own that uses FTP is configured differently, at leat slightly. If you have troubles like I was, try lots of variations on the paths, servers, etc.
Thanks you MelvinG and ChristianKa for your help. I was very frustrated when I wrote my first message, so I appoligize for the tone of it.
Tom Diederich.
